Hi, I'm Jack, - Founder,Owner.

I left school and started an apprenticeship as a mechanic, but I always had a greater interest in learning how products were designed and manufactured rather than simply repairing them. In my spare time, I taught myself a variety of skills, including photography and 3D modelling using software such as AutoCAD, Maya, and SolidWorks.

In my mid-twenties, while working full-time as a Design Engineer for a cleanroom and medical facility manufacturer, I began studying Mechanical Engineering at university. I spent 10 years in that role, gaining valuable experience in design, manufacturing, and product development.

Then, in my thirties, life took an unexpected turn. I was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect that required major surgery. Within six months, I had undergone a heart valve replacement and began the road to recovery.

During that recovery period, I found myself drawn back to my home workshop and my passion for welding and fabrication. At the time, modular welding tables were well established in the United States but relatively uncommon in the UK. Wanting one for myself, I designed and built my own.

Before long, local fabricators and businesses began asking if I could make one for them too. What started as a single project quickly snowballed into something much bigger. That was the beginning of our parent company, Mac Industries. Websites were launched, larger premises were secured, staff were hired, and six years later we are proud to design, laser cut, fabricate, and manufacture everything in-house from our Herefordshire workshop.

So, where did Helix come from?

Once I had my welding table, I needed a chair to go with it. As someone who is passionate about cars and motorcycles, I also wanted a workshop chair that could help with servicing, detailing, and general workshop tasks.

I couldn't find anything on the market that combined durability, functionality, and distinctive design, so I decided to create my own.

The vision was to build a chair that would last a lifetime while looking completely different from anything else available. One of the first design concepts was the twisting spiral leg structure, which immediately stood out and inspired the name Helix.

After years of development, the Helix range now includes four models: high and low versions, each available with either threaded or gas-cylinder height adjustment. Every design is Patent Pending and manufactured to the same standards and attention to detail that have defined our business from the very beginning.

We're incredibly proud of what Helix has become and excited about what comes next.

If you have any questions about our Helix Chairs or would like to discuss a custom requirement, we'd love to hear from you.
